MIRCA, a small stone village still preserving old „spirit“ of the past times, undisturbed with new buildings. Old stone houses are Mediterranean squeezed, having small fenced yards with some vegetables for a home use; about 300 inhabitants still live in, and, with a nature, mainly occupied with fishing, olive groves, vine-yards, vegetable and fruits.
The old village is situated about 400 m far from the sea, but new part of the settlement had spread to the sea level. There is Olive Museum in the village, St. Elizabeth church, some small markets, several restaurants closer to the sea.
In the old center which is full of the atmosphere of forgotten island village life, time seems to stand still. Gumonca bay situated among pine trees, gardens and new houses, with it’s small fishermen’s wharf and beach is now the center of daily life.
There are several walking areas spreading in various directions: by the sea overlooking coastal contours and city of Split situated just opposite to Mirca; signed olive grove treks in Brac countryside reminding to past times, hike to Blaca desert (pustinja Blaca) feeling the intact nature and visiting the refuge of monks from the 15th century...wishing to have more fun, Supetar is within walking distance of only three kilometers.
The village was founded by the inhabitants of the nearby Sutivan and Donji Humac in the 16th century. In the 18th century was built the church of Marys Annunciation. In the church you can see the pala Madonna of seven sorrows, a work of the painter Felix Tironi from Supetar. Pave Gospodnetic, native painter from Postira, created the paintings of St. Ciril and St. Metod.
