SUCURAJ, island Hvar, a picturesque small town decorated by the slopes of Biokovo on the background, the peninsula Peljesac and the Adriatic Sea with a history longer then 2300 years, is situated on the east cape of the island Hvar (Dalmatia, Croatia), 3NM far from the mainland. One can come to Sucuraj by ferries from 2 directions: from Drvenik on the Makarska Riviera ( what is easier) and from Split to Stari Grad and then by the road to Sucuraj.
There are about 400 inhabitants that mostly live from fishing and tourism. In Sucuraj one can find: ambulance, restaurants, harbour, petrol station, open terrace with alive music, restaurant; all riched by very coasy climate, beautiful beaches and Mediterranian. On the both sides of the cape Sucuraj, within a distance of 30 km there are no other setlements; one can find own private beach or just walk around admiring in colours and the beauty of the sea. The most popular beaches are: Cesminica in the city of Sucuraj, bay Perna, 1,5 kilometer away from Sucuraj and the bay Mlaska, 3 km far.
In the last decades Sucuraj has developed into a small city which is monument for itself (1975 it gets the status of a cultural monument), because it has preserved until today the succession of the architectural forms from the past. The church of the Saint Anthony from Padova, built in the baroque style with gothic elements, today represents one of the most worthy monuments of the cultural sacral heritage of Sucuraj. The second by its value is the monastery of St. Augustin and the church of St.Jure, the building which began in 13th century and developed intensively in the 15th and 16th century.
Guests can taste the flavour of the domestic fruits and vegetables as well as a wine and olive oil, gourment cousine offerd in a few restaurants.
There are many types of recreation: day and night fishing, riding bicycle, sailing, diving, the cultural summer with various events, in which the folk feast 'Ribarske noci' - 'Nights of the fishermen' stands as a special experience.
